Domain Transfer Guide

In addition to our suite of web hosting packages, Easy CGI offers discount domain registration. As well as saving money over some of the more well known domain registration providers (Network Solutions, Register.Com, etc.), many customers enjoy having all hosting related services "under the same roof". If you have already registered your domain with another registrar, your domain can be easily moved from one Registrar to another. Our Domain Transfer Guide will help make this process a quick and easy one.

Domain Transfer Process

As soon as your request to transfer your domain to the Easy CGI registrar is made, the transfer process is started. Within 24 hours you will receive a confirmation email from Easy CGI. In this email is a URL that you must visit to confirm the transfer. Within 72 hours of confirming the Easy CGI transfer request, most registrars will send you a 2nd confirmation email. Most registrars provide a URL that you must visit and provide authorization that you wish to transfer your domain to the Easy CGI registrar. Within 48 hours of confirming the 2nd email, your domain should successfully transfer. Some registrars do not send out a 2nd confirmation email. If you do not receive an email from your old registrar within 5 days, and the domain transfer has not completed, send an email to support@easycgi.com.

If you are unsure what to do at any time during the domain transfer process, please don´t hesitate to contact Easy CGI support. If you don´t understand any emails received regarding the domain transfer, please forward them to support@easycgi.com, and we will take care of them for you.

Domain Transfer Tips

If you will be transferring your domain to the Easy CGI Registrar, you should consider changing the "Admin Contact" for your domain to support@easycgi.com. This change will eliminate any problems you may encounter with receiving the confirmation emails that are a part of any domain transfer. You can update this information with your current registrar´s online interface. To accelerate the transfer process, the Admin Contact should be changed prior to signing up for hosting services.

If you anticipate problems with your domain transfer, we recommend that you provide us with the login information to your current registrar. With this information we will be able to make the domain transfer process proceed in a timely fashion.

If you want to handle the transfer confirmation emails yourself, please make sure that you have access to the Admin Contact email address. If this address is no longer valid, you will want to update this email with your current registrar. An incorrect Admin Contact email will result in delays to successfully transfer your domain.

If you would like your website to be fully active on the Easy CGI network as quickly as possible, you should change the Name Servers for your domain to ns1.easy-cgi.com & ns2.easy-cgi.com. Making a Name Server change takes up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the entire Internet.

If your domain has a .com, .org, .biz, .info, or .us extension, an "Authorization Code" or "Auth Code" is necessary to transfer your domain. This code can be found in the online interface of many registrars. If it is not readily available online, you may have to request it via email from your current registrar.

Domains that have been newly registered in the last 60 days can´t be transferred. If you would still like to transfer your domain to the Easy CGI registrar, go ahead and sign up as a domain transfer. We will put the transfer request through as soon as we are able. While you are waiting for your domain to transfer, you will want to change the Name Servers for your domain to make it point to the Easy CGI network. The Easy CGI Name Servers are ns1.easy-cgi.com & ns2.easy-cgi.com.

Many registrars enable a feature called "Domain Locking" to prevent unauthorized transfers of your domain. Domain Locking should be disabled prior to transferring your domain to the Easy CGI registrar. This can be done from your old registrar´s online interface.
